sermon: Immutable Scientific Laws

Scientific Proof of an Illimitable Superior Spirit
Martin G. Collins
Given 17-Jan-04; Sermon #647; 76 minutes

Description: (show)

When the words "God" and "science" are mentioned together, the two terms are assumed to be mutually exclusive or contradictory. Actually, true science, unencumbered by foolish evolutionary theory, substantiates the awesome complexity of God's handiwork. The scientific law of biogenesis (life comes from life), as well as the First and Second Laws of Thermo-dynamics, totally destroys these misguided, pseudo-scientific evolutionary theories. God alone brings life into existence and has the power to sustain it, and order and organization decrease, not increase, over time. The physical creation provides a public, verifiable revelation of God's immense handiwork and power.

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, "My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds."

Today, we have more scientific details than perhaps at any other time in human history. Biblical prophecy verifies that in the end time "knowledge shall increase". Yet, in today's society, when God and science are mentioned together, it is either in an effort to disprove either God or science. People humanly reason that there seem to be contradictions between God, and what is called science, or what I call pseudo science. But when the facts are accepted, science confirms that there is a Supreme detail oriented Designer-Creator.

In I Timothy 6:20 the apostle Paul cautions us to avoid "the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge". This includes all theory, promoted by scientists, that contradicts the existence of a Supreme Designer-Creator. We answer a fool according to his folly!

True and honest science actually reveals God, and certain truths about God, confirmed in the Bible. Invisible proof of God's existence is abundant to those God has called and given His Holy Spirit for understanding. Even anyone who is not willfully rebellious against God has the where-with-all to see the results in creation of an awesome designer. True science does not require physical proof for all scientific doctrine.

In this vein, God's inspired written word tells us in I John 4:12 'that no man has seen God'.

Romans 1:20 and John 4:24 inform us that, 'God is invisible and intangible'.

As a result of these spiritual truths, we approach God "by faith" as Hebrews 11:6 confirms.

Although the real interaction with God comes by faith, there is also scientific proof that God exists. A case in point is that creation implies and requires that there is a Designer-Creator even in the physical world. Look at an automobile (a type of creation)—it had an intelligent being that designed it and put it together.

The hardest part about preparing this sermon was choosing and narrowing down what small part of the overwhelming scientific proof to use. In light of the plentiful, physical proof of God's careful, awe-inspiring designing and creating, I am only able to give you a small glimpse today of some of those laws that He has set down.

Science has discovered immutable laws that control the physical universe——the Laws of Biogenesis, the Laws of Thermodynamics, and the Laws of Entropy, to name a few. I do not mean to scare you. or glaze your eyes over, but I am going to talk about each of these laws and it is going to require some thinking. My intent is that you will come out of it with an awe inspired view of God, as in the details that He has placed in this universe, in His designing and His creating.

The first immutable law we will look at is the Law of Biogenesis.

The Law of Biogenesis attests to the fact that life begets life. The theory of evolution spreads the false belief that life originally evolved from inorganic matter, that is, not alive——something like rock. It is indeed, a whopper of a LIE that they are trying to put over on us, or should I say, a theory. It certainly is not the educated guess it is purported to be. It is undoubtedly a very, very poor guess and surely a very wrong hypothesis, having to do with the origin of life.

The difference between a law of science and a theory of science is that a law is fact—never changing. A theory is a suggested hypothesis that is not a proven fact. Which do the scientists of this world use to form a belief system? It is the theories of this and theories of that. They avoid the proofs that God has set down.

We start with a simple question: Have you seen anything——ANYWHERE ON EARTH——that is life that came from something inert or dead? Absolutely not.

Two scientists, known for their attempts to recreate life in the laboratory, were Dr. Stanley Miller and Dr. Sydney Fox. Miller conducted a series of experiments claiming to show that, under the conditions supposedly prevalent when the earth was young, amino acids could have formed spontaneously. These substances are the building blocks of proteins, which are the building blocks of life. They are saying that it could have come about spontaneously.

But the consensus today, accepted even by Miller, is that the conditions of the early earth were actually highly unfavorable to the creation of amino acids. Yet scientists still hang on to this theory.

In Miller and Fox's experiments, they put some substances in an oxygen-free environment. and passed electricity through them to recreate the effect of lightning strikes. Of course, they failed to create any life form, but they did inadvertently strengthen the case for an intelligent Creator. In their quest to disprove God, they actually proved Him all the more.

Miller's experiment could produce amino acids only as a result of intelligent design. Their experiment was by their own intelligent design and so they did create something out of it, but not life. Without human intervention experiments like that performed by Miller invariably produced non-biologically relevant compounds.

During the experiment, several amino acids combined——something that must happen for life to form. But they formed in the wrong gender combination. Amino acids are distinctly left-handed or right-handed. All life forms contain only left-handed amino acids. The Miller-Fox experiment combined an even mix of both amino acid configurations. So they did not create life.

Even if Miller and Fox had been successful in combining single-gender amino acids, they are still a long way from creating life.

Also, it is ridiculous to think that these exact components would be present in the perfect laboratory environment and then get struck by lightning at just the right time and power level. In addition, oxygen is necessary to sustain life. Therefore the same environment needed to sustain life would have prevented the creation of it. Oxygen naturally destroys oddities I should say.

Though many laymen still discuss the theory of the random origin of life, Meyer says, "By the early to mid-1960s, the Blind Chance Hypothesis had been rejected by most researchers."

Meyer calculates the chances of one functioning protein forming by chance as being 1 in 10 to the 125th power, a ratio that is so small, that even assuming that the earth is billions of years old, there was no realistic possibility that the one hundred proteins necessary for the operating of a simple cell could have come together randomly and begun functioning. This theory of the origin of life, is one of three still discussed by scientists today, and still included in many public school textbooks.

Regarding the origin of life, some scientists have proposed, that before what we would normally call life began, some form of natural selection produced amino acids and protein sequences that led to a functioning organism. But no one can explain how this could happen unless sequences that are, for all intents and purposes, living organisms, are first formed by random chance —— an obvious impossibility. They still cling to impossible theories because they have nothing else to explain science.

Life begets life, because that is the way the intelligent, and awesome Creator designed the laws of the universe. True science reveals the reality of God, but the Bible alone reveals the person of God, the Creator and His will.

It is God who not only designs and creates, but also renews life. True science actually rejects the hypothesis that "life came from nothingness." The scientific Law of Biogenesis requires that life must beget life. It is a well-substantiated fact that life cannot come from a non-living element by itself, without an intelligent, all-powerful Designer-Creator.

The beginning of the book of Genesis explains that God was the present and active force behind all of creation. You are all well aware of that. Genesis 1:1 might seem (to the non-discerning mind) as if it describes the beginning of everything, but (as you know) God later reveals details of events and conditions that took place earlier.

In nine verses in Genesis 1 we see the statement "and God said?." "So God created"? (translated from the Hebrew word bara meaning 'called into being without prior existence'). It was not something that God renewed, but it is something that He actually formed. God created the heavens and the earth merely by commanding it to be so, using His Spirit power. In Genesis 1:2 He says, "the Spirit of God" was there. It was the power used to bring the physical matter to life. So, God's eternal Spirit life gave life to inert physical material. Life begat life!

David was inspired to write that God created and renews His Creation. It is not something that God does once and then walks away from it. His creation is not something that He designs and just watches it work on its own.

Psalm 104:24, 27-30 O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season. What You give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good. You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth.

We see there the power from which the renewal comes. The emphasis in Psalm 104:28-30 is on God who acts. It says there, "You give? You open Your hand? You hide? You take away? You send? You renew."

Here "renew" means to give a new appearance, to refresh, to restore the face of the earth.

These acts of God reveal divine favor and divine disfavor when He hides His face. The Lord God gives His life-giving Spirit. But He also takes away the life-spirit from His creatures. Their "breath" in verse 29 is literally "their spirit".

The English words "breath" in verse 29 and "spirit" in verse 30 are translated from the same Hebrew word ruwach (roo'-akh). In verse 29, it means wind; by resemblance, breath, that is a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figuratively, it refers to life.

In verse 30, however, the same word by resemblance is translated 'spirit,' it refers only to a rational being (including his expression and functions). The King James Version translates the Hebrew word ruwach in various scriptures as: air, anger, blast, breath, courage, mind, spirit, spiritual, tempest, wind or windy.

A similar word is found in Genesis 2:7, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."

The word "breath" here is from the Hebrew word neshamah (nesh-aw-maw) and it means a puff, for example a puff of wind, and an angry or vital breath, it also may refer to divine inspiration, or intellect. The King James Version translates this word in various scriptures as: blast, breath, inspiration, or spirit. It depends on the context partly as to how it is used.

Creation is not just an event that occurred in the beginning, at the foundation of the earth, but is God's continuing activity of sustaining creatures and holding everything in existence. Many times this activity of God is referred to as "God's providence."

The renewing Spirit power of the universe is invisible, not only generally affecting Creation, but also specifically affecting individual perishing human beings ——especially for those of us in God's church.

II Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

The verb "renewed" is translated from the Greek word anakainoo meaning, "to make new". The Greek prefix 'ana' means "back" or "again," and the suffix 'kainos' means "new," not recent, but different. We see there that this is not a remodeling so to speak but an actual re-creation to something totally new and different. Here in verse 16, "to renew" is used regarding the daily renewal of "the inward man", in contrast to the perishing physical frame. Paul speaks of the "renewal" of spiritual power. That is where the renewal comes through.

II Corinthians 4:17-18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The very source of the material well-being of God's creation is the Lord God. Nature is dependent on the Creator, looking to Him for regular sustenance. All creatures on earth and in the sea, wild and domesticated, birds and sea creatures, and especially human beings, have a sense of the spiritual power by whose favor they live (even though more often than not, it is ignored by most of humanity). Our well-being comes from God—it does not just happen.

Acts 17:24-25 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. "Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

Paul is referring to all things necessary to sustain life, showing how dependent we are on God. We realize our ultimate physical dependence on God in our absolute reliance on Him for every breath that we breathe. It would be very easy for God to suspend our breathing. But He incessantly cares for us, whether we are asleep or awake, whether we remember or forget Him. He still takes care of His creation.

Most of what we are covering here is very familiar to you all and its prime purpose is to glorify God and to help us to really appreciate His awesome capabilities as Designer and Creator. Essentially important to us is the fact that Christ gives us hope of complete spiritual renewal in His own resurrection from the dead. He is the firstborn of Creation. Speaking of the preeminence and the supremacy of Christ, Paul said that all things were created by and consist in Christ.

Colossians 1:13-18 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

All things are kept continually in His existence, in their order, and in their harmony by the power of Jesus Christ. If unsupported by Him, they would fall into disorder, or deteriorate back to nothing. This is the attribution to Christ of infinite power——because nothing less would be sufficient to maintain the universe and all things.

The harmony of spiritual power between Jesus Christ and the Father is necessary to preserve the synchronized action and reliability of the earth, the solar system, the galaxies and the universe. Only a Divine Being could do this; so in this we see why He is the image of the invisible God. He is the great and glorious and ever-active agent by whom the perfections of God are made known.

Colossians 1:21-22 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—

Jesus has reconciled us in His flesh through His death. This is the first and only instance, of something dead producing life. It has never happened before and it will not happen again. It is by the life giving power of God that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead, and that gives us eternal life.

The law of biogenesis says that life produces life. Jesus Christ, being the firstborn of the dead, died so that we may have life——Spirit life——Eternal life.

I John 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

God the Father has provided, through the Savior, the means of obtaining Eternal life. This life is treasured up in Him, or is to be obtained through Him. A principle laid down by Jesus Christ Himself, is that he who believes in Jesus already has access to Eternal life in the future. The promise is so sure for the true Christian that he is assured of receiving it——it is a guaranteed gift. Therefore, it is as if it has already happened.

The evidence we should see in us is 'Christ in us'. This is how access to eternal life has been provided, and that we may be able, by self-examination, to determine whether we possess access to it. 'Christ in us' equates to 'Eternal life in us'. And so we see also with regard to entering the spirit world that life must beget life.

Another immutable law that controls the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Immediately, eyes glaze over. It does have a lot of practical application. I was almost surprised to see that this applied so much to a field that I used to be in (Mechanical Engineering) and has to do with aspects of that. I will show you some of that practical application.

The First Law of Thermodynamics is simply a statement of energy conservation. That is, it states that energy can always be accounted for, that the energy of the universe is a constant——it can be transferred between objects and can change form, but the total does not change. But the first law is not complete, of and by itself, because it does not rule out things occurring, that we know do not occur. This means we cannot prove it physically. For example, a glass of water does not spontaneously separate into ice cubes and warm water, but if you only went by the first Law of Thermodynamics, then by that one law it would be possible. But there are other laws that add direction to that first law. So because that first law is insufficient, there is a second law.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics explains why the universe does not have things spontaneously separating. The second law articulates the underlying principle that gives the direction of heat flow in any thermal process. If you have a hot and cold object which way does the heat flow? That is, the second law explains which direction heat flows between two objects or two spaces of differing temperatures. The Second Law of Thermodynamics states why it is true that:

Heat naturally flows from higher temperatures to lower temperatures. (For example: If you go over and touch the window you will immediately feel that it is cold. The sensation that you are having is that the heat is transferring from your hand to the cold window. The sensation is actually a removal of heat. The sensation you are feeling is a loss of heat not that cold is coming into your hand. This is an immutable law of God's in the universe. Heat only transfers from the hotter source to the colder.)

No natural process has as its sole result the transfer of heat from a cooler to a warmer object. This is how that applied when I was in Mechanical Engineering. In order to calculate how much power you needed to cool or heat a room you had to know how much heat was transferring through the walls, windows, doors and cracks. If you were going to cool a place and you knew the heat was coming in from the outside then that was a source of the heat that you had to cool, whereas if you are heating a place then the heat is leaving the space and so the calculations are different. You see how it has a practical application although probably I have not told you enough to make you understand what happens in Mechanical Engineering. But, this is a general sense of it.

It is obvious that either the physical universe had a definite beginning point in time, or it has existed eternally. Scientifically, the Second Law of Thermodynamics proves that it has not eternally existed.

This second law confirms a running down process. The physical universe is running out of energy. Remember we said, it is a closed space, with a finite amount of energy. In common phraseology, science indicates that the universe did not evolve and continue to improve, but rather the opposite. To promote the theory of organic evolution is to contradict this scientific Second Law of Thermodynamics.

"Thermodynamics" is simply the physics that deals with the mechanical action or means of heat; it is how heat works. These physics, as related to physical things, prove that there is a running down of the physical universe as a whole. A quick example of that is the sun. The sun has a finite amount of energy that is going out from it into cold space. It is only going in one direction—there is nothing going to the sun to replenish it except for maybe some dust and small particles that enter into its gravitational pull, but they are not enough to replenish it.

The author of Hebrews, probably the apostle Paul, was inspired to declare that the heavens and the earth are aging and will expire. Paul knew this, even though he did not know about the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Hebrews 1:10-12 And: "You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.

One of the things we are seeing there, is that there is a huge difference between the physical creation and the spiritual realm and the awesome creating God.

The author, possibly Paul, is being very encouraging here. He expresses that though the heavens and the earth may suddenly disappear, or though they will gradually wear out and become extinct, nevertheless there is the infinite Godhead that remains unaffected and unchanged. God says, "I am the Lord; I do not change".

All of these physical changes take place under His direction, and by His command. Therefore we, the elect of God, have no reason to be alarmed when we see things happening in the heavens. We have no need to fear though we may see the heavens rolled up as a scroll, and the stars falling from their places. God, the Creator and Redeemer presides over all. He is unchanged and forever lives. Though the universe may pass away, it will be only by His will, and under his direction. He is the one who sustains it, He did not just create it and walk away.

Here in verse 11, the heavens are compared to a garment, meaning that as it grows old and decays, so it will be with the heavens and the earth.

The sun is a prime example. It is a huge ball of gases that is burning out. Everyday the sun sends out many countless millions of beams of light over the universe. Scientists know that in the course of time, its brilliance diminishes. There is not a scientist with a sane mind, so to speak, that does not agree that the sun is burning away.

There cannot be the constant exhaustion of energy, a constant burning like that without decay. Not unless the material for its splendor is continually supplied from the unlimited resources of the Great Source of Light——God!

The Second Law of Thermodynamics proves that the physical universe must have had a beginning point. Genesis 1:1 states, "In the beginning God made the heavens?"

In Genesis we do not see details of the awe-inspiring initial creation, the creation long before Adam and Eve about which angels sang for joy. We do not read how that creation came to be in chaos——"without form and void."

God does reveal elsewhere in scripture that He did not design and create the heavens and earth in this disorderly state.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD, and there is no other.

It is a simple statement, but a powerful statement of truth. The term "in vain" is the same word translated "without form" in Genesis 1:2. Isaiah says that God did not originally create the earth in this condition.

Other scriptures, such as Isaiah 34:11 and Jeremiah 4:23, describe similar devastation on the earth using the same words translated "without form, and void" in Genesis 1:2. There is no doubt that these words describe the earth as being an empty wasteland.

Other Bible scriptures fill in the missing pieces and tell us of Satan's rebellion against God. They describe his attempt to overthrow God, and as a result, of a great supernatural battle that he lost, as mentioned in several places—Luke 10:18; II Peter 2:4; I John 3:8; Jude 6.

We see what appears to be a parallel situation in Revelation 12:7-9, which apparently describes an attempt by Satan to overthrow God shortly before Christ's return, from which he is thrown out of heaven. But, God has allowed Satan to retain authority over this present world for the time being. That is a future event.

The apostle John, writing under God's inspiration, takes us back to a time before the events described in Genesis 1. This is a very foundational scripture and it is so important that we, in many sermons, keep turning back to it.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Here the Bible reveals that, before the creation of the heavens and the earth described in Genesis 1, the Word was with God, and God made everything through the Word. Nothing of this is revealed in the Genesis account, yet these details help us understand who God was in the beginning and who He was at the time of the earth's creation.

In another passage God explains that angels were present at the creation of the earth. The book of Genesis does not mention this, but it is an important fact. We find this detail recorded in the book of Job, where God asks Job where he was when He laid the foundations of the earth.

Job 38:4-7 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Here the "morning stars" and "sons of God"——the angels——exulted as they saw the earth miraculously come into existence. They were created long before the earth and the heavens.

David's main theme throughout the Psalms is to glorify God. In Psalm 19 he conveys that the heavens pronounce God's glory, and he mentions the sun and its heat. God's immutable Law of Thermodynamics dictates the way the sun works. The heat goes out from the sun, the sun does not absorb heat, and therefore the sun is running out of energy, just as some of the stars in the universe have already exhausted their energy. Astronomers believe that some of the stars from which we are just now receiving light actually burned out many, many millions of years ago, but their light is finally reaching us. The speed of light is a certain speed.

Psalm 19:1-6 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hiddenfrom its heat.

The First Law of Thermodynamics states that there is a finite amount of energy in a closed system. The second law states that as energy is transferred some amount becomes unusable.

For example, your wristwatch is a closed system. Inside there is a finite amount of energy——the battery, and some stored momentum. As energy is transferred from its storage location to the gears of your watch, some of it becomes unusable through friction, and it eventually runs out. The universe works the same way; it is just on a grander scale. There is a finite amount of energy and it is being used up.

The universe, like your watch, is also a closed system (granted it is a substantially larger, but nevertheless a closed system). And like your watch, it too is gradually winding down. In other words, it has a life span, and at some point it will run out of energy. So obviously God's plan is within that time frame as He sustains the universe.

Now, if the universe always existed then it would have run out by now, because there is a finite amount of energy contained within it. It must have had a beginning point. This same sort of running down happens with all physical matter no matter how small. Chemicals break down, energy sources get used up, and physical things wear out.

Duane Gish, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of California at Berkeley, expressed the dramatic impact of this principle on the theory of evolution.

"Of all the statements that have been made with respect to theories on the origin of life, the statement that the Second Law of Thermodynamics poses no problem for an evolutionary origin of life is the most absurd? The operation of natural processes on which the Second Law of Thermodynamics is based is alone sufficient, therefore, to preclude the spontaneous evolutionary origin of the immense biological order required for the origin of life."

He, as a Professor and a scientist, just basically states that the idea is absurd that the evolutionary origin of life which talks about spontaneously coming to life and the universe always existing is just ridiculous. Here is a man who has spent many, many years studying such things.

Evolutionists want us to believe the lie that billions of years would undo this process of the law of thermodynamics. Billions of years of wearing out and running down make the universe less usable, less orderly, and less capable of creating and sustaining life.

The truth of the Law of Thermodynamics as related to physical things is that there is a running down of the physical universe. Thermodynamics points to creation rather than organic evolution.

Closely related to the Second Law of Thermodynamics is the Law of Entropy. It is a principle asserting that in the natural running down of the physical universe, orderly things become disorderly. As living physical things wear out they become more chaotic. This scientific phenomenon is called entropy.

It can be understood by observation that: cars wear out, flowers die, and people get old and die. It is a very easily understood principle because we see it all around us. The Bible is full of examples of physical things that deteriorate, and shows that they do not 'hold a candle to' spiritually everlasting things.

In Psalm 102 David compares his temporary state of being with God's permanency:

Psalm 102:11-12 My days are like a shadow that lengthens, And I wither away like grass. But You, O LORD, shall endure forever, And the remembrance of Your name to all generations.

Luke recorded Jesus as saying that the law is more permanent than heaven and earth. The spiritual law of God is immutable and eternal, but the physical heaven and earth are assailable and temporary.

Luke 16:16-17 "The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.

All physical things get old and deteriorate. The universe is no different. Material things are wearing out. When material things on earth wear out, we have to renew or rebuild them. We have to constantly replace our clothes because they wear out. In this limited sense, we are the intelligent being that must manufacture or in some case remanufacture our clothes. Even on earth, on the physical level, we see that we, as the intelligent designer are required for a car, watch or clothes to come together. This is an immutable law.

Evolutionists would have us believe that billions of years of evolution have reversed this process of entropy. This unproven, and senseless, theory of evolution that they promote, is also in direct conflict with what we observe in everyday life. If in a little time things wear out, become more chaotic, and wear down, then billions of years would only compound the process.

Peter describes the end of many physical things during the Day of the Lord, but then encourages us to look for new heavens and a new earth.

II Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Paul instructs us that we are to look beyond the physical, we are to look beyond that which is running down or that which is wearing out, to that which is eternal.

The Law of Entropy as observed by science, and the theory of an eternal physical universe, are directly opposite. As time goes on, order and information in the universe diminish—this is called entropy and is attributable to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Conversely, evolution calls for order and information to increase with time, which is a scientific impossibility!

The universe itself is the best example of this progression towards chaos. In 1924 astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered the continual expansion of the universe. He recognized that as time passed, the celestial bodies were moving outward. He also noted that the rate of expansion was greater as the masses moved further away.

This was positive proof that the universe could not have existed eternally. Amazingly, it was peering into Hubble's 100-inch telescope that finally persuaded Albert Einstein that the universe had a beginning. In the beginning God created the heavens!

As we consider that the physical universe had a beginning, we cannot fail to notice the conspicuous absence of a reasonable alternative explanation. The scientists have certainly tried and they have even tried to promote their lies to cover the truth. Of course, there are those who would argue that the universe has always existed, (because they hate God and they are rebellious against Him) or they say that it came spontaneously from nothing. But these speculations are futile. They lack substantial evidence, and violate some of the most fundamental laws of science.

Theories that reject creation by a Supreme Being stand only on speculation and guesses from human reasoning. So, why do so many people grip so tightly to a belief with so many deficiencies and inadequacies?

Uncontrolled faithlessness and sin have a great deal to do with denying and refusing to obey and understand the Creator God and His designing and creative power. True understanding of the immutable laws of the universe requires faith. Paul explained in what our faith should be.

I Corinthians 2:2-16 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Truth everywhere requires the presence of the power of God, without that power all things degenerate, including truth. What I mean by that is it gets perverted. By faith in the power of God, we recognize truth and error. That power is seen in changing our minds; in overcoming the strong tendency of our nature to sin; and in subduing the wrong attitudes that come out of our minds; and in making us a new creature in Jesus Christ.

We may not be able to investigate all the evidences of God's designing and creating power and we cannot meet all the objections of shrewd and subtle scientists. We may feel inadequate to refute all their perplexing arguments, yet we have all the immutable proof we need when we have faith in the power of God regarding spiritual wisdom and this power of God Paul continues:

I Corinthians 2: 6-16 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Could anything be more inspiring and more exciting than that—of course, other than actually receiving eternal life in the Kingdom of God?

We have no need to feel embarrassed because we are unable to answer every scientific question that arises regarding the uneducated and unsubstantiated worldly guesses called the theory of evolution and origin of the universe. Most immutable laws are only spiritually discerned and understood by faith in the power of God.

Sadly for those who promote such false theories, God eventually brings His wrath on them for their unrighteousness. Paul's comments about the philosophers of his day, apply as much to philosophers and scientists of our day.

Romans 1:18-21 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Listen to this statement by an honest scientist. Scientist Sidney S. Negus said,

"The more a real scientist knows, the more reverent he must become. The more a person tries to penetrate the wonderful workings of God, and the more one knows about them, the more reverent he must be toward the Power back of it all. Scientists believe in the unseen atom because they see evidence of its existence. A true scientist's experiences in life have given him innumerable evidences of God's existence?. What man could be a deeply thoughtful bacteriologist or astronomer and not be reverent toward God?"

Romans 1:22-25 Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Paul's words remind us that we can look at the miracles in the world around us and see compelling evidence of God's handiwork, understanding not only that He is the Creator, but glimpsing some of His nature and His character.

The Creation is a gateway through which we can see the Creator. Although everyone sees the same evidence, each individual makes a choice as to how to interpret it. Some early philosophers made a conscious choice to reject God. They chose to interpret their studies in a way that would exclude Him. The world's scholars in various fields have since followed in their deception.

Many scientists have been, and will continue to be, prejudiced and dishonest in their interpretations. Because the physical evidence cannot always explain nature, it is perfectly reasonable to infer from natural systems that the supernatural exists——otherwise many examples from the world around us remain inexplicable.

This is where faith makes all the difference in the world. Science has yet to come up with a consistent natural explanation for the origin of the universe and life. The supernatural explanation given in Hebrews 11 is the answer to the question.

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

The second step after concluding that God made our universe, is to conclude that God will reward our search to know Him personally.

Hebrew 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

We need only reflect and meditate, as Job did, on the awesome power and glory of our Creator to see ourselves realistically in our proper stature compared with God. Who are we to question why God designed or created or is working with us in a certain way? Job seemed to have questioned it at one time.

Job 9:4-12 God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered? He removes the mountains, and they do not know When He overturns them in His anger; He shakes the earth out of its place, And its pillars tremble; He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars; He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea; He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south; He does great things past finding out, Yes, wonders without number. If He goes by me, I do not see Him; If He moves past, I do not perceive Him; If He takes away, who can hinder Him? Who can say to Him, 'What are You doing?'

When Job questioned why God would allow him to suffer, God's reply in Job 38 both set Job in reality and comforted him by reviewing God's great power and wisdom in the wonders of His Creation. This is what God used to show Job how great and awesome His power and attributes truly are.

If we can appreciate the beautifully precise design of God's physical universe——by our faith we can more easily trust His wisdom and His divine design for preserving His intelligent creation——us! We can confidently face the future because we have already seen what our wise, all-powerful Creator prepared for us in the past for us to use now and in the future.

Job 38:18-33 Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this. "Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, that you may take it to its territory, That you may know the paths to its home? Do you know it, because you were born then, Or because the number of your days is great? "Have you entered the treasury of snow, Or have you seen the treasury of hail, Which I have reserved for the time of trouble, For the day of battle and war? By what way is light diffused, Or the east wind scattered over the earth? "Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water, Or a path for the thunderbolt, To cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, A wilderness in which there is no man; To satisfy the desolate waste, And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass? Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? The waters harden like stone, And the surface of the deep is frozen. "Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?

Again, very familiar scriptures, but awe inspiring never the less. What God is saying here, is that had Job been present at the creation, which was an obvious absurdity, he might have known something about God's management of the vast and magnificent expanses of the universe. Job knew that God made the Pleiades, Orion, and Bear constellations, but here God points out that Job had nothing to do with holding together the cluster of stars known as the Pleiades, nor could he alter the configuration of stars in the Orion constellation, nor could Job cause the Bear constellation to appear at night.

Since Job knew little or nothing of the laws of the heavens (because who really understands the principles by which God regulates the stars, planets, and moon?), how could he question God's laws or how God applies them? Dominion over the universe is God's, not Job's and not any scientist's and not ours. The discoveries of science have immensely expanded mankind's understanding of what is seen and only a little of what is not seen.

They have shown that these twinkling lights are vast worlds and systems, and at the same time have so disclosed many of the laws by which they are governed as to promote in those who revere God, increased faithfulness, and elevated awareness of the glory of the Creator and Sustainer of all life.

Although true science may reveal some of the reality of God, it is the Spirit of God and the Bible that reveals the person of God, the Creator, and His will.

The wonder of the inspired written word of God through the biblical vision of the Creator is that His creation on earth not only reveals Him, but is also dynamic and wonderful. Regardless of how the dishonest scientist or philosopher may assert himself, he cannot outdo the evidence of God's glory on earth and in the heavens. It is all around us. His glory is established, and no deceitful scientist can overcome His kingdom. The advocate of the theory of evolution is anti-Creator, that is, anti-Christ and therefore is an enemy of God.

David says that the harsh tone sounded by the enemy in God's creation is silenced by the praise of children. The sound of children is concrete evidence of the obviousness of God's designing, creating, and sustaining power on earth and for His creation. The innocent babbling and chatter of children silence the sound of opposition by philosophers, scientists and their followers. Because the children are innocent, they understand more than those who reject God such as the scientists and the philosophers. The continuity of humanity is God's way of assuring us of His plan for the continuance of life. And, Christ's sacrifice and resurrection assures us of the continuance of Spiritual Eternal life.

Psalm 8:1-2 To the Chief Musician. On the instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

God confers great honor on the meek——people so humble that they may be compared to innocent children in this aggressive world. God makes them the means of overthrowing the false knowledge of the wicked of this world. They are answered according to their folly.

Then in verse 3, David reflects on the grandeur of space with the moon and stars. How space reveals the glory, wisdom, and power of the Great King! The heavenly bodies all have their appointed place. They are His work. The fingers of God express His care as a sculptor. In contrast to God, the heavens are tiny, pushed and prodded into shape by His divine fingers; but in contrast to the heavens, which seem so immense when viewed from the human perspective, we are puny!

Psalm 8:3-9 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

In relation to the vastness of space, the order and importance of the heavenly bodies, what are we? Why does God invest us with glory? Why does He uniquely care for us? These questions stir up a sense of awe and place a proper perspective on our true self-worth. I used the word puny before but that does not quite make it. We are smaller than that—we are microscopic. But not in our importance to God.

Inasmuch as God gave shape to the heavenly bodies with His fingers, why should He concern Himself with us? We, who are of a frail human existence.

Nevertheless our Creator has invested glory and honor on us. God remembers us by remembering positively to act on our behalf. Instead of bringing down on us deserved judgment for our sins, His goodness extends to us and He grants us forgiveness. God's fatherly compassion motivates Him to be continually concerned with His Creation and continually active within it. His care renews us day by day. What an awesome and caring God we have! How great He is.
