Jesus warns the Pharisees against the shallowness of seeking honor from one another rather than seeking honor from God. True honor comes from humbling ourselves under the authority of God. As parents, we must direct our children to fear God and keep His commandments. Peer pressure, society, and media all conspire to destroy this family bond, but we must fight these distractions, teaching honor by showing honor to both our parents and our children. Our parent-offspring relationship continues in perpetuity; consequently the obligation to show honor never ends either- but must be extended to our brethren and society as well.
