sermonette: Emulate God's Lovingkindness for Unity's Sake

Our Betrothal to Christ
Bill Onisick
Given 02-Oct-04; Sermon #FT04-05s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

Our betrothal to Christ mimics the customs of the traditional Jewish wedding covenant, including the preparation and purification customs, the Mohar (the payment a groom makes to the bride's father- symbolizing Christ's sacrifice of His very life), the Mattan (a special gift from the bridegroom to his bride — symbolizing the giving of the Holy Spirit) and the gift of Chesed or loving-kindness and grace- a trait we need to emulate in our role of Christ's bride. During our preparation to marry Christ, we must demonstrate, love, faithfulness, loving-kindness, and compassion to our brethren, and a steadfast willingness to abide by His holy law — the common denominator of the Old and New Covenants.
