sermonette: Uriah the Hittite

A Tool in the Hand of God
Ted E. Bowling
Given 05-Feb-05; Sermon #704s; 14 minutes

Description: (hide)

Uriah served as a moral barometer or mirror of what David was and would become again, demonstrating qualities of faithfulness, responsibility, and loyalty, qualities that David seemed to have temporarily forgotten, as evidenced from his adulterous relations with Bath Sheba. It is ironic that Bath Sheba's spouse effectively had to bring back to David's memory, pricking his conscience, the qualities of loyalty and faithfulness temporarily absent in David. God used Uriah as a spiritual mirror, demonstrating to David the vast distance from which he had fallen from his earlier integrity and valor. We need to also emulate Uriah's willingness to sacrifice.
