sermonette: The Three Witnesses of Christ

The Meaning of 1 John 5:7-8
David C. Grabbe
Given 06-Aug-05; Sermon #732s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

When we dismiss the spurious words in I John 5:7-8, there are three things that bear witness. The water refers to Christ's baptism by John in John 1:32. The blood refers to His shed blood spilled out for the remission of our sins in John 19:34, and the Spirit refers to the sending of the Holy Spirit in John 15:26-27. All of these witnesses apply to each of the called out begotten children, illustrating the process of begettal and growth.
