sermonette: Eliezer of Damascus

Ted E. Bowling
Given 07-Jan-06; Sermon #754s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

Abraham's loyal steward, Eliezer of Damascas, was a servant who carried out the tasks assigned to him with great diligence and faith in God. Abraham asked Eliezer not to choose from among the daughters of the Canaanites, but to find a wife among Abraham's kinsmen- all carried out without the accompaniment of Isaac. Eliezer placed a tremendous amount of confidence in God as he asked for a specific sign- as well as a high degree of wisdom in determining the loyalty and responsibility of Isaac's future spouse. Eliezer demonstrated a high priority on the desires of his master and not one iota on his own needs. As ambassadors for our master Jesus Christ, we need to emulate both the selflessness of Eliezer as well as his deep dependency upon God.
