sermonette: The Beginning of Heresies

Satan's Deceptions from the Garden of Eden
David C. Grabbe
Given 03-Jun-06; Sermon #777s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

Satan's pattern of deception can be seen from the very first temptation. Satan has been recycling three basic patterns of heresy from the Garden of Eden until today. Satan begins the process by casting doubt on God's trustworthiness asking, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden.'?" Satan has been progressively undermining every aspect of the Bible through spurious human 'wisdom' such as the Gnostic Gospels. The second perennial heresy is seen in Satan's assertion that "you will not surely die," promulgating the heresy of the immortal soul and the protestant doctrine of eternal security. Finally Satan emphasizes that knowing is more important than a way of living. The satanic pattern of (1) casting doubt on God's veracity, (2) removing the threat of death, and (3) stressing knowing rather than doing has not changed one iota from the Garden of Eden to the present.
