sermonette: Joseph in Egypt

Real History in Genesis
Richard T. Ritenbaugh
Given 17-Jun-06; Sermon #780s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

There is far more corroboration for the historicity of the Bible than any other book or set of books. Joseph evidently rose to power under a Pharaoh of Semitic (Hyksos) stock, closely related to the Hebrews. Joseph's wife was also an Aramean, out of the same Semitic stock as were the Hyksos leaders. When Joseph was placed over the government of Egypt, he wisely commanded the building of storage cities, making Pharaoh food wealthy and eventually currency wealthy, making Egypt a world empire without war. After the Hyksos were overthrown in an insurrection by the native Egyptians, the Israelites were taken into captivity, as God had revealed to Abraham in Genesis 15:12. God had micromanaged the entire sequence of events.
