Frederick Beckner's asserted that anger seems to be the easiest of the seven deadly sins to practice. Ironically, the true target ultimately becomes the self. God has intended that we use anger productively against our sins, but not on other individuals or on the self. When anger smolders, the effects become increasingly deadly. We need to bring anger and all of its cousins (bitterness, wrath, and malice) under control. Anger is often manifested in indirect ways including doing a job sloppily or secretly rejoicing in the demise of someone else. We need to guard against letting someone else arouse our ire, realizing that vengeance belongs to God.
