sermonette: Why Are We Living in a Democracy?

Gilbert Boyer
Given 29-Sep-07; Sermon #FT07-05s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

In the West (the common heritage of modern Israel) we have learned the principles of democracy, an institution that has deposed despots and monarchies. In a democracy, the ruler is never supposed to accrue much power, but must be derived from the people. While democracy will not solve the major world problems, it is the best form of government as long as men have character and honesty. Today our most brilliant leaders may be able to recognize problems, but not know how to solve them. The Israelitish countries (Western style democracies) have always come to the aid of the tiny democratic country of Israel (actually the descendants of Judah). Globalization, by repudiating national sovereignties, is a great threat to democracy, reason, and the well-being of greater Israel. Thankfully, in all such threats to our ideals, God will be with us in every trial and test.
