sermonette: The Longest Night

Passover
Ronny H. Graham
Given 12-Apr-08; Sermon #876s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

While the United States' judicial system presumes a citizen is "innocent until proven guilty," the Roman system of 2000 years ago permitted scourging, torture, humiliation, psychological and physical abuse were before the conclusion of innocence was drawn. Jesus had to endure betrayal from a familiar acquaintance, as well as the seeming indifference of his friends, as He prayed to His Father before the mob dragged Him away to injustice, enduring beating, slapping, scourging, having His hair pulled out, and enduring the humiliation of being stripped naked, having a crown of thorns pounded into His skull, and a mock robe thrust about Him. All the amenities given to normal prisoners were denied to Jesus Christ. As Jesus was placed on the cross, all the sins of the world had been placed upon Him, compelling God the Father to turn His face from Him. God gave so that we could live eternally with Him.
