sermonette: What Do We Do In Babylon?

Jeremiah 29:1-7
Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)
Given 28-Jun-08; Sermon #889s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

Spiritual Babylon is an international system crossing all cultural, religious, and political lines, infusing the entire world with the "get" way of life, a way of life we have been called out of. If this system has indeed spread worldwide, it would be physically impossible to find a haven of escape, but we can learn to keep our integrity even as we live in the midst of it. As Daniel was able to thrive economically in this system while keeping his allegiance to God, we are commanded not to "drop out" of the economy, but learn to use godly principles to thrive within the economic system, tending our gardens, managing our businesses and occupations, and building our homes, rather than escape to a place of safety. Young people ought to develop their latent abilities with all their might, preparing for marriage, starting homes and families, reproducing themselves with children (Jeremiah 29:6), and praying for and supporting local and national governments. Perhaps, because we have failed to pray for the peace of Babylon, and because we continue to bash, vilify, and denigrate our leaders (local and national) instead of praying for them, we will surely reap more calamities.
