sermonette: The Pursuit Of Excellence

Clyde Finklea
Given 15-Oct-08; Sermon #FT08-04s; 19 minutes

Description: (hide)

Synonyms of the pursuit of excellence include "surpass," "outdo," "outstrip," indicating a sense of competition, lifting self up and putting others down. Biblical excellence, on the other hand, does not emphasize competition, but using spiritual gifts to glorify God and serve others. The goal of excellence to God's called out ones should be to add the elements of godly character to our nature. Whatever we are able to do, we need to do with all our might. We must do our very best at being and doing good, knowing God and emulating Him, knowing each other and developing friendships, developing a loving relationship within those friendships. We should love each other as God has loved us. If we are not striving to do our very best to emulate God's character, we need to ask ourselves, "Why not?"
