sermonette: Cyrus: Raised in Righteousness

Who Was Cyrus' Mother?
David C. Grabbe
Given 06-Dec-08; Sermon #913s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

Biblically, different names may refer to the same person, but may come from different ethnic traditions. Names like Pharaoh and Darius are not surnames, but titles like President or Czar. Interestingly, it appears that Cyrus was the son of Esther and greatly influenced by both Esther and Mordecai, preparing him for God's direct intervention. God takes time to prepare one for His service. Because of his unique preparation, Cyrus was a champion of multicultural rights, establishing a formal declaration of rights. His preparations for the temple were extraordinary, giving specific detailed instructions for the architecture of the temple. Years before he was born, God called Cyrus by name, singling him out for a specific purpose. The story of Cyrus gives testimony of God's sovereignty and of the accuracy of prophecy.
