sermonette: Hezekiah

Give Credit Where Credit Is Due
Mike Ford
Given 31-Jan-09; Sermon #921s; 19 minutes

Description: (hide)

Hezekiah's life could be written as one of the perennial sob stories appearing in magazines. As a sibling of several offspring sacrificed to Moloch, Hezekiah inherited a political nightmare as he started his 29 year reign. He was remembered as perhaps the third best king of Judah, after David. Hezekiah purged the land of idolatry, but had to bribe Sennacherib, the leader of the Assyrian army, to leave the country in peace. When Hezekiah became deathly ill, he sought God's healing. God gave Hezekiah victory over the next invasion from Sennacherib. When Babylonian envoys came to inquire of these miracles, Hezekiah foolishly gave them a tour of his headquarters, boasting of his immense wealth and his skill over the Assyrians, but forgetting to give credit where it was due-the intervention of God Almighty. We dare not follow Hezekiah's example in this tragic oversight.
