sermonette: The Work of the Church

David C. Grabbe
Given 06-Oct-09; Sermon #FT09-06s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

The scattering of the greater church of God has caused a readjusting of priorities in order that we do not repeat the mistakes of the previous fellowship. In our fellowship, John Ritenbaugh considers himself a pastor rather than an evangelist or prophet, making the focus on the flock first. Our flock is now in a scattered condition, requiring a different method of tending them. God allowed the scattering because of the collective sins of our previous fellowship, which had collapsed from within. In order for unity to occur, our relationship with God must come first. The work of God is not defined as "preaching the Gospel to the world" exclusively (John 6:29), but only a small facet. The goal for the Israel of God is to be transformed into Christ's image. The announcement of His Kingdom is not the over-riding concern at this time. The care of the churches is more the emphasis right now, in which individual members must be prepared for the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ is the Head of the church; He takes care of its functioning. God has opened the door of the Internet for our small congregation. Although reaching the world is not our top priority, we are still doing so with our websites and email newsletters. We as the body of Christ constitute the Work of God.
