sermonette: Giving Ourselves

Amasiah's Epitaph
John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)
Given 13-Apr-12; Sermon #1096As; 22 minutes

Description: (hide)

The example of Amasiah in II Chronicles 17:16 reminds us that we must voluntarily, wholeheartedly, and willingly give ourselves to the Lord. Similar willing sacrifices were offered by David, Deborah, and Barak. All of them saw God in the giving of the sacrifice. God praises the attitude of giving and not expecting anything in return. Jesus Christ was willing to empty His God status, sacrificing Himself as a lowly human being while we were yet sinners. For the sons of God, there should be no such thing as an unwilling sacrifice. Unwilling Christianity is not Christianity. True sacrifice only occurs when we love God deeply.
