sermonette: Where is Simeon?

Tracking the Tribe of Simeon
Mike Ford
Given 25-Aug-12; Sermon #1117s; 18 minutes

Description: (hide)

Following the rape of Dinah, Simeon and Levi murdered the perpetrators and continually exhibited violence and cruelty. Jacob pronounces a malediction on them for their cruelty—that they would be separated and scattered. Simeon is not mentioned in Deuteronomy 33. In the census reported in Numbers 1, Simeon's family was dead last in population. One theory is that the tribe of Simeon split when one of their leaders was killed in a rebellion. The Simeonites have perhaps been scattered throughout Judah and Israel, occasionally surfacing when a mean-spirited warrior was called in for battle.
