sermonette: Dress For Spiritual Success

Being Modest in an Immodest World
Bill Onisick
Given 17-Aug-13; Sermon #1172s; 15 minutes

Description: (hide)

I Peter 3:1-8 encourages godly women to exercise modesty and discretion. Both women and men should use discretion and modesty in adornment, emphasizing the inward rather than the outward appearance. Emphasis on the outward appearance is often motivated by vanity and self-glorification, while a stress of the inward adornment is motivated by a humble attitude, glorifying God. Worldly fashions seem to be incrementally desensitizing us to adulterous impulses, defiling the godly purity we are trying to uphold—somewhat like walking up an escalator going down. We must resist this downward pull, keeping the temple of God's Holy Spirit pure.
