In the 1960s, the Everly Brothers had a hit called "Devoted to You." Only God can sing this song because He alone is faithful, never having lied or never having broken His covenental promises with Abraham and His descendants. Our God realized the seriousness of the Covenant, but realized that Abraham did not have the resources to keep the Covenant on His own power. Though Abraham fell short of the total commitment, God blessed Abraham for stepping out on faith with the resources he did have, supplying the balance of what Abraham and his spiritual offspring lacked.
