sermonette: Salt of the Earth

Ronny H. Graham
Given 30-Sep-15; Sermon #FT15-03s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

Salt is a compound that has literally changed the history of the world. Salt is one of the most sought-after minerals on the face of the earth. Salt has remarkable preserving, antiseptic qualities (predating refrigeration by millennia), is absolutely essential for health, and has no equal as a culinary condiment. All of the offerings in Leviticus were made with salt; covenants with God and with other humans were ratified with salt. In the Roman empire, soldiers were paid in salt, a fact which informs the etymology of the English word salary and the expression "worth one's salt." Trade in foodstuffs involved combining cargoes of the preservative salt with acquired fish or meat. We are commissioned to be the salt of the earth. Salt is good unless it loses its saltines, that is, if it becomes diluted by impurities, symbolized by compromising with the satanic culture of this world. Even though the body has a definite need for salt, governmental busy-bodies are waging an intense war on salt, depriving human beings of an essential nutrient. Satan also wants to eliminate the "salt people" (God's called-out ones) from the face of the earth.
