sermonette: Salt of the Earth

Ronny H. Graham
Given 30-Sep-15; Sermon #FT15-03s; 20 minutes

Description: (hide)

Salt, a compound with no equal as a condiment, has literally changed the history of the world as one of the most sought-after minerals on earth. It has remarkable preserving and antiseptic qualities (predating refrigeration by millennia) and is essential for health. All of the offerings in Leviticus were made with salt, and covenants with God and humans were ratified with salt. In the Roman Empire, soldiers were paid in salt, which informs the etymology of the English word "salary" and the expression "worth one's salt." Trade in foodstuffs involved combining cargoes of the preservative salt with acquired fish or meat. Christians are commissioned to be the salt of the earth. Salt is good unless it loses its saltiness, that is, if it becomes diluted by impurities, symbolized by compromising with the satanic culture of this world. Even though the body needs salt, governmental busy-bodies are waging an intense war on it, depriving people of an essential nutrient. Satan also wants to eliminate the "salt people" (God's called-out ones) from the face of the earth.
