sermonette: Rewards of Our Journey

Ted E. Bowling
Given 03-Oct-15; Sermon #FT15-06s; 16 minutes

Description: (hide)

American culture has become increasingly impatient, demanding instant rewards, instant food, instant entertainment, and instant religion (prescribing "just accept Jesus" or "just say 10 hail Marys" solutions). Mother Eve was tempted by the serpent's temptation of instant immortality. Overcoming and building character cannot be developed instantly, but requires hard work, sacrifice, and endurance, requiring hardships and trials to perfect the process. We have to see God in the trial to see and understand the lesson or meaning of the lesson. God leads us into trials to see how we will how we will handle them. We should see trials and tests as gifts from God, helping us to get to know Him. Joy comes after the trial, as a result of having grown from the trial rather than during the trial.
