sermonette: Keeping Our Focus Through Stormy Seas

Ted E. Bowling
Given 05-Oct-20; Sermon #FT20-03s; 18 minutes

Description: (hide)

It is increasingly easy for us to be thrown off balance and into a perpetual state of fear. Distractions of any type may cause God's called-out ones to shift their attention from their Creator, as Jesus' disciples did on that stormy night in the Sea of Galilee. On that occasion, Jesus demonstrated His control over nature by walking on violently agitated waters. Jesus, speaking from the tumult, offered words of comfort and encouragement to the frightened disciples, assuring them He was totally in control. When Peter disembarked in order to meet Christ, he too walked on water until he—in a lapse of faith—took his gaze off Him. Jesus immediately extended His hand and saved Peter. Likewise, when God's children experience spiritual storms, Jesus will extend His hand if they begin to sink, promising that He will, under no circumstances, abandon them (Hebrews 13:5)
