sermonette: Will You Show Up?

Confidence in God
Hunter D. Swanson
Given 17-Dec-22; Sermon #1685s; 13 minutes

Description: (hide)

As we become encumbered with trials and difficulties, it is hard to keep hope from dwindling, even though Paul assures us that we will not be tried beyond our capability (I Corinthians 10:13). We are promised that if we acknowledge God and commit our ways to Him, He will guide our steps (Proverbs 3:5-6; 16:3, 9). Even though the Lord directs our steps, we are obliged to acknowledge God by doing our part by "showing up" and not forsaking fellowship with spiritual siblings, laying aside every weight or encumbrance, and showing up for our spiritual race, preparing to give it our very best. However, expecting to do the very best each time might prove to be a detriment leading to inhibiting self-doubt, preventing us from serving others. Sometimes, "showing up" may occasionally be our best works. Bible study, prayer, and meditation from time to time may seem routine and not as sharp as we would like, but when our confidence is in Almighty God and our Lord Jesus Christ, we can experience boldness and confidence far beyond what we ask (Ephesians 3:11-12, 20-21).
