sermonette: Old Testament: Fruit of the Spirit (Part Two)

Ronny H. Graham
Given 17-Feb-24; Sermon #1748s; 17 minutes

Description: (hide)

In Psalm 15:2-5, David, who in his 70 years of life probably had one of the most roller coaster lives as anyone who ever lived, compiled a list of the fruit of the spirit in the Old Testament comparable to the list written by the apostle Paul in Galatians 5:22 in the New Testament. Righteousness and understanding are at the top of David's list, exemplified by Uriah and Abigail. In the story of Abigail's interaction with David in I Samuel 25:3, she was described as a "woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance." Abigail bravely prevents David from engaging in a foolish act of revenge against a fool which would have lowered David to Nabal's stature. David proved himself a reasonable man who feared God, and consequently heeded her advice, leading David to take Abigail for a wife after Nabal expired, blessing her humble request that David remembered her as a faithful maidservant, exuding righteousness and understanding.
