Very interestingly, Barnes' Notes says that the priest was the most privileged and the highest class in Egypt, and that the marriage between Joseph and Asenath guaranteed Joseph's acceptance by the nation. That was a pretty smart move by the Pharaoh to do that. "Besides being a foreigner, let's overlook that. He's married to one of our priestesses." And so Joseph was right in there.
