And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord; It shall rejoice in His salvation.
aAll my bones shall say, “Lord, bwho is like You, Delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?”
Fierce witnesses rise up; They ask me things that I do not know.
aThey reward me evil for good, To the sorrow of my soul.
But as for me, awhen they were sick, My clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; And my prayer would return to my own1 heart.
I paced about as though hewere my friend or brother; I bowed down1 heavily, as one who mourns forhis mother.
But in my1 adversity they rejoiced And gathered together; Attackers gathered against me, And I did not know it; They tore atme and did not cease;
With ungodly mockers at feasts They gnashed at me with their teeth.
Lord, how long will You alook on? Rescue me from their destructions, My precious life from the lions.
I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among1 many people.
False witnesses did rise up - There is no doubt that several of this kind were found to depose against the life of David; and we know that the wicked Jews employed such against the life of Christ. See Matthew 26:59, Matthew 26:60.
They laid to my charge things that I knew not - They produced the most unfounded charges; things of which I had never before heard.
