Faith Persevering in Trial
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
Out of athe miry clay,
And bset my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord.
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Which You have done;
bAnd Your thoughts toward us
Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.
My ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

Psalms 40:1
I waited patiently for the Lord - The two preceding Psalms are proofs of the patience and resignation with which David waited for the mercy of God. The reader is requested to consult the notes on them.
And heard my cry - The two preceding Psalms show how he prayed and waited; this shows how he succeeded.
