Compare all
7 aGive1 to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Give to the Lord glory and strength.
8 1Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come into His courts.
9 Oh, worship the Lord ain the beauty of holiness!
Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the1 nations, a“The Lord reigns;
The world also is firmly established,
It shall not be1 moved;
bHe shall judge the peoples righteously.”
11 aLet the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
bLet the sea roar, and1 all its fullness;

Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.
13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
aHe shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.

Psalms 96:9

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness - This verse is literally taken from I Chronicles 16:29-30. The margin here is, "in the glorious sanctuary." The Septuagint, ̓ ̓͂ͅ ̔́ͅ en aulē hagia - "in his holy court." So the Latin Vulgate. On the meanings of the expression, see the notes at Psalms 29:2.

Fear before him, all the earth - All lands; all people. The word rendered "fear" means properly to writhe, to twist, to be in pain; and then, to tremble, to quake, to be afraid. The word "tremble" would perhaps best express the idea here. It is that solemn awe produced by the sense of the divine presence and majesty which causes trembling. It denotes profound reverence for God.
