Psalms 106:37

35 ^aBut they mingled with the Gentiles
And learned their works;

36 ^aThey served their idols,
^bWhich became a snare to them.

37 ^aThey even sacrificed their sons
And their daughters to ^bdemons,

38 And shed innocent blood,
The blood of their sons and daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And ^athe land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus they¹ were ^adefiled by their own works,
And ^bplayed the harlot by their own deeds.

40 Therefore ^athe wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people,
So that He abhorred ^bHis own inheritance.

Psalms 106:37

Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters - See II Kings 16:3; Ezekiel 16:20; Ezekiel 20:31; Isaiah 57:5.

Unto devils - Hebrew, ׁ shêdiym . The Septuagint, ́ daimoniois , "demons." So the Vulgate, "daemoniis." The word is used only in the plural number, and is applied to idols. It occurs only in this place, and in Deuteronomy 32:17. On the meaning of this, see the notes at I Corinthians 10:20.
