Proverbs 4:23-27
Excerpted from: Decide Now How You Will Respond!

Now flip a few pages over to Proverbs 4, verse 23. Set boundaries for your desires. Do not pursue everything you notice. Focus straight ahead. Keep your eyes on the goal and avoid getting sidetracked by distractions and detours that lead to temptation. The antidote, therefore, is to guard one's inner heart and mind. Here we are going to read verses 23 through 27.

So this instruction for righteousness involves the parts of the body that are involved in expression or action. First, the heart, that is, the mind, must be guarded diligently because it is the wellspring of life. The heart is at the center of life's activities; it guides a person's path.

Temptations can only be resisted and conquered if we take the right course of action. Temptation is an invitation to sin, offering the promise of a greater benefit through disobedience. Our minds should be conditioned to promote obedience and goodness.
