Proverbs 15:15
Compare all
13 aA merry heart makes a cheerful1 countenance,
But bby sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil,
aBut he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.
16 aBetter is a little with the fear of the Lord,
Than great treasure with trouble.
17 aBetter is a dinner of1 herbs where love is,
Than a fatted calf with hatred.

Proverbs 15:15

Afflicted - The affliction meant here is less that of outward circumstances than of a troubled and downcast spirit. Life to the cheerful is as one perpetual banquet, whether he be poor or rich. That which disturbs the feast is anxiety, the taking (anxious) thought" of Matthew 6:34.
