He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul; But he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.

Amplified® Bible
He who refuses {and} ignores instruction {and} correction despises himself, but he who heeds reproof gets understanding.

You hurt only yourself by rejecting instruction, but it makes good sense to accept it.
