Ecclesiastes 1:7
Compare all
5 aThe sun also rises, and1 the sun goes down,
And hastens to the place where it arose.
6 aThe wind goes toward the south,
And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.
7 aAll the rivers run into the sea,
Yet the sea is not full;
To the place from which the rivers come,
There they return again.
8 All things are1 full of labor;
Man cannot express it.
aThe eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 aThat which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1:7

The place - i. e., The spring or river-head. It would seem that the ancient Hebrews regarded the clouds as the immediate feeders of the springs (Proverbs 8:28, and Psalms 104:10, Psalms 104:13). Genesis 2:6 indicates some acquaintance with the process and result of evaporation.
