Isaiah 25:2
Compare all

Praise to God

1 O Lord, You are my God.
aI will exalt You,
I will praise Your name,
bFor You have done wonderful things;
cYour counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
2 For You have made aa city a ruin,
A fortified city a ruin,
A palace of foreigners to be a city no more;
It will never be rebuilt.
3 Therefore the strong people will aglorify You;
The city of the1 terrible nations will fear You.
4 For You have been a strength to the poor,
A strength to the needy in his distress,
aA refuge from the storm,
A shade from the heat;
For the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
5 You will reduce the noise of aliens,
As heat in a dry place;
As heat in the shadow of a cloud,
The song of the terrible ones will be1 diminished.
6 And in athis mountain
bThe Lord of hosts will make for call people
A feast of1 choice pieces,
A feast of1 wines on the lees,
Of fat things full of marrow,
Of well-refined wines on the lees.

Isaiah 25:2

A city "The city" - Nineveh, Babylon, Ar, Moab, or any other strong fortress possessed by the enemies of the people of God.

For the first meir , of a city, the Syriac and Vulgate read hair , the city; the Septuagint and Chaldee read arim , cities, in the plural, transposing the letters. After the second meir , a MS. adds lagol , for a heap.

A palace of strangers "The palace of the proud ones" - For zarim , strangers, MS. Bodl. and another read zedim , the proud: so likewise the Septuagint; for they render it here, and in Isaiah 25:5, as they do in some other places: see Deuteronomy 18:20, Deuteronomy 18:22. Another MS. reads tsarim , adversaries; which also makes a good sense. But zarim , strangers, and zedim , the proud, are often confounded by the great similitude of the letters daleth and resh . See Malachi 3:15; Malachi 4:1; Psalms 19:14, in the Septuagint; and Psalms 54:5, where the Chaldee reads zedim , compared with Psalms 86:16.
