Exodus 12:1-2
Excerpted from: Passover (Part 5)We are already into Abib. Did this take place on the first day of Abib? Second? Third? Fourth? Fifth? We know for sure that it took place before the tenth—because that is when they had to choose the lamb. We are narrowed down here to nine days (day 1 to day 9)—somewhere in that period of time. Do you think that we could calculate, from the Scriptures, that God would have been fair? That is, that God would have given as much warning as He possibly could from this point on, and that these instructions took place on the first day of Abib? Does it not seem to indicate that He said this just as the month was beginning? That is the indication. "This month shall be your beginning of months." I think we can, at least, narrow it down to eight days because they would have had at least one day to do some spoiling. So I think that we got it narrowed down there, pretty well.
Exodus 12:1-2
Excerpted from: A Calendar SummaryNotice: "in the land of Egypt." That is, before they ever left Egypt—while they were still slaves in Egypt.
They already had a calendar! Before they even left Egypt. And it was not the Egyptian calendar, brethren. That is very clearly proved by archeologists. Egypt always had a solar calendar. The Hebrew calendar is lunar-solar. Because of so many finds having been made in the pyramids, and temples, and burial grounds all over Egypt—it is very clear that Israel was not using the Egyptian calendar. This [reference in Exodus 12] was the calendar that God gave to them. So, even before they left Egypt, they already knew what the first month of the year was going to be.
