ye . . . that bear . . . vessels of the Lord—the priests and Levites, whose office it was to carry the vessels of the temple (Jeremiah 27:18). Nebuchadnezzar had carried them to Babylon (II Chronicles 36:18). Cyrus restored them (Ezra 1:7-11).
be . . . clean—by separating yourselves wholly from Babylonian idolaters, mystical and literal.
