The Firstborn Consecrated

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 a“Consecrate1 to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”

3 And Moses said to the people: a“Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of1 bondage; for bby strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. cNo leavened bread shall be eaten.  
4 aOn this day you are going out, in the month Abib.  
5 And it shall be, when the Lord abrings you into the bland of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He cswore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, dthat you shall keep this service in this month.  
6 aSeven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord.

In Exodus 13 we will see the command. But, what we are going to see is that the sense of His commands is metaphorical. It is not actual. Notice how He phrases this:

This is just after He mentioned to them to tell their sons what has been done in Egypt and why. This eating of unleavened bread, then, was to be a sign to the Israelites for what God has done.
