Jeremiah 7:17
Compare all
15 And I will cast you out of My sight, aas I have cast out all your brethren—bthe whole posterity of Ephraim.
16 “Therefore ado not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; bfor I will not hear you.
17 Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18 aThe children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they bpour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.
19 aDo they provoke Me to anger?” says the Lord. “Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?”

Jeremiah 7:17

The proof of the hopeless immorality of the people is this, that they worship pagan deities

(1) generally in the cities of Judah, and not in the capital only; and

(2) publicly in the streets of Jerusalem. Such public idolatry could have been practiced only in the reign of a king like Jehoiakim.
