Jeremiah’s Unpopular Ministry
aYou are stronger than I, and have prevailed.
bI am1 in derision daily;
Everyone mocks me.
aI shouted, “Violence and plunder!”
Because the word of the Lord was made to me
A reproach and a derision daily.
Nor speak anymore in His name.”
But His word was in my heart like a aburning fire
Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,
And bI could not.
“Fear on every side!”
“Report,” they say, “and we will report it!”
bAll my acquaintances watched for my stumbling, saying,
“Perhaps he can be induced;
Then we will prevail against him,
And we will take our revenge on him.”

Jeremiah 20:7
Hast prevailed - Thou prevailedst against me. Jeremiah at first excused himself to God, Jeremiah 1:6, but the Lord prevailed against him replying, Jeremiah 1:7, Say not, I am a child, for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak, Jeremiah 1:9. This is all that is here meant, namely, God's over - ruling him contrary to his own inclinations.
