Now, that these are promises, and true promises, cannot be denied. God does not say anything that He will not back up. So He has to fulfill them, right? Well, not so fast. Even though the televangelists’ infer this from Scripture, in the end it is very simplistic to think this way, it is a very simplistic conclusion. Very few of God’s promises are absolute in nature. In other words, they are conditional promises. We saw that one in Exodus 15, where it said, if you do this and this and this, then I will not put the diseases I put on Egypt on you. But He made very strict, very clear conditions so that we would have to be very upright and obedient to be able to actually claim the promise.

From these verses I want us to notice that good health and healing, when one gets sick, are directly linked to obedience. Brethren, obedience means work. We cannot obey without working to obey. The principles that we have been dealing with in these three sermons are in an overall sense incredibly simple. They begin with the fact that from the very beginning God has required mankind to work, to replenish, to dress and to keep, but that work is to be channeled in a God-commanded direction, and toward a God-ordained end. To obey those commands requires work and the expending of time, thought, and energy toward accomplishing them.

Like the grace God bestows upon His people, these health blessings are conditional and require submission to His holy laws and statutes. Healing, which Jesus Christ deliberately associated with forgiveness of sins (referencing Matthew 9:5 and Luke 5:23) is also conditional, dependent upon unconditionally submitting to His laws, judgments, ordinances, decrees, and precepts. Knowing God’s law and acknowledging its value is not good enough—we must be actively keeping and doing it.

Our Lord has promised His chosen saints that if they remain steadfast to His holy spiritual and physical laws that He would spare them from the curses of disease and sickness.

Remember these promises and blessings are conditional upon our willingness to obey God in everything He asks.

That is a very clear promise of healing and of protection from those diseases. But notice the conditional "if . . . then" construction of this promise. We have to heed Him, it says—meaning listen and obey Him. And we have to do what is right—meaning we have to live righteously.
