What Does Jeremiah 23:1 Mean?

God promises He has not forgotten His people and will punish those most responsible. Although sin existed from the top to the bottom within the church, the ministry bears the major portion of responsibility for the church's scattered, weak condition, having failed to act when it should have. God undoubtedly expected more from the ministry than what was given to Him and to the people.

Jeremiah 23:1-3

We have a wonderful promise from God—that He has not forgotten about us and that He will punish those who are most responsible. Even though there was sin from the top to the bottom within the church, the ministry bears the major portion of the responsibility for the church's scattered, weak condition because we should have done something. He undoubtedly expects more of us than we gave to Him—and than we gave to you.
