Judgment on Egypt
And mount up, you horsemen!
Stand forth with your helmets,
Polish the spears,
aPut on the armor!
Their mighty ones are beaten down;
They have speedily fled,
And did not look back,
For afear was all around,” says the Lord.
Nor the mighty man escape;
They will astumble and fall
Toward the north, by the River Euphrates.
And its waters move like the rivers;
And he says, ‘I will go up and cover the earth,
I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’
And let the mighty men come forth:
1The Ethiopians and2 the Libyans who handle the shield,
And the Lydians awho handle and bend the bow.
A day of vengeance,
That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries.
bThe sword shall devour;
It shall be1 satiated and made drunk with their blood;
For the Lord God of hosts chas a sacrifice
In the north country by the River Euphrates.
bO virgin, the daughter of Egypt;
In vain you will use many medicines;
cYou shall not be cured.
And your cry has filled the land;
For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty;
They both have fallen together.”
Babylonia Will Strike Egypt
Proclaim in Noph and in bTahpanhes;
Say, ‘Stand fast and prepare yourselves,
For the sword devours all around you.’

Jeremiah 46:1
The word of the Lord - against the Gentiles - This is a general title to the following collection of prophecies, written concerning different nations, which had less or more connection with the Jews, either as enemies, neighbors, or allies.
They were not written at the same time; and though some of them bear dates, yet it would be difficult to give them any chronological arrangement. Dahler' s mode of ascertaining the times of their delivery may be seen in the table in the introduction.
