Jeremiah 51:5
Compare all
3 Against her alet the archer bend his bow,
And lift himself up against her in his armor.
Do not spare her young men;
bUtterly destroy all her army.
4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans,
aAnd those thrust through in her streets.
5 For Israel is anot forsaken, nor Judah,
By his God, the Lord of hosts,
Though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.”
6 aFlee from the midst of Babylon,
And every one save his life!
Do not be cut off in her iniquity,
For bthis is the time of the Lord’s vengeance;
cHe shall recompense her.
7 aBabylon was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand,
That made all the earth drunk.
bThe nations drank her wine;
Therefore the nations care deranged.

Jeremiah 51:5

forsaken—as a widow (Hebrew). Israel is not severed from her husband, Jehovah (Isaiah 54:5-7), by a perpetual divorce.

though . . . sin—though the land of Israel has been filled with sin, that is, with the punishment of their sin, devastation. But, as the Hebrew means "for," or "and therefore," not "though," translate, "and therefore their (the Chaldeans') land has been filled with (the penal consequences of) their sin" [GROTIUS].
