Exodus 19:5

3 And ^aMoses went up to God, and the Lord ^bcalled to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

4 ^a‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how ^bI bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

5 Now ^atherefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and ^bkeep My covenant, then ^cyou shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is ^dMine.

6 And you shall be to Me a ^akingdom of priests and a ^bholy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

7 So Moses came and called for the ^aelders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the Lord commanded him.

8 Then ^aall the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord.

9 And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you ^ain the thick cloud, ^bthat the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.” So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.

10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and ^aconsecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.

11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

Exodus

EXODUS, a "going forth," derives its name from its being occupied principally with a relation of the departure of the Israelites from Egypt, and the incidents that immediately preceded as well as followed that memorable migration. Its authorship by Moses is distinctly asserted by himself (Exodus 24:4), as well as by our Lord (Mark 12:26; Luke 20:37). Besides, the thorough knowledge it exhibits of the institutions and usages of the ancient Egyptians and the minute geographical details of the journey to Sinai, establish in the clearest manner the authenticity of this book.
