Exodus 19:6
Compare all
4 a‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how bI bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
5 Now atherefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and bkeep My covenant, then cyou shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is dMine.
6 And you shall be to Me a akingdom of priests and a bholy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
7 So Moses came and called for the aelders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the Lord commanded him.
8 Then aall the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord.
9 And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you ain the thick cloud, bthat the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.” So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and aconsecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.
11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
12 You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. aWhoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.

Exodus 19:6

ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests—As the priestly order was set apart from the common mass, so the Israelites, compared with other people, were to sustain the same near relation to God; a community of spiritual sovreigns.

an holy nation—set apart to preserve the knowledge and worship of God.

Exodus 19:3-6

Moses went up unto God—the Shekinah—within the cloud (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18).

Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, etc.—The object for which Moses went up was to receive and convey to the people the message contained in these verses, and the purport of which was a general announcement of the terms on which God was to take the Israelites into a close and peculiar relation to Himself. In thus negotiating between God and His people, the highest post of duty which any mortal man was ever called to occupy, Moses was still but a servant. The only Mediator is Jesus Christ [I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 12:24].
