Ezekiel 2:3

1 And He said to me, “Son of man, ^astand on your feet, and I will speak to you.”

2 Then ^athe Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me.

3 And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has ^arebelled against Me; ^bthey and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day.

4 ^aFor they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’

5 ^aAs for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they are a ^brebellious house—yet they ^cwill know that a prophet has been among them.

6 “And you, son of man, ^ado not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though ^bbriers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions; ^cdo not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, ^dthough they are a rebellious house.

7 ^aYou shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse, for they are rebellious.

8 But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and ^aeat what I give you.”

9 Now when I looked, there was ^aa hand stretched out to me; and behold, ^ba scroll of a book was in it.

10 Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.

Ezekiel 2:3

Son of man - This appellative, so often mentioned in this book, seems to have been given first to this prophet; afterwards to Daniel; and after that to the Man Christ Jesus. Perhaps it was given to the two former to remind them of their frailty, and that they should not be exalted in their own minds by the extraordinary revelations granted to them; and that they should feel themselves of the same nature with those to whom they were sent; and, from the common principle of humanity, deeply interest themselves in the welfare of their unhappy countrymen. To the latter it might have been appropriated merely to show that though all his actions demonstrated him to be God, yet that he was also really Man; and that in the man Christ Jesus dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. When the acts of Christ are considered, it is more easy to believe his eternal Godhead, than to be convinced that the person we hear speaking, and see working, is also a man like unto ourselves.

I send thee to the children of Israel - To those who were now in captivity, in Chaldea particularly; and to the Jews in general, both far and near.
