Exodus 22:13
Excerpted from: John (Part 16)If an animal died and it could be proven that it was something for which he was not responsible, (the only way that could be proven is shown in the book of Amos), the man had to be able to find a leg, an arm, or something to indicate that it was beyond his responsibility for the death of that animal. But if he had the opportunity to beat off the attacking animal, then it was his responsibility to do it, to the point of laying down his life. Remember, those sheep meant a great deal to those people; that was their life.
