I will consume the birds of the heavens,
The fish of the sea,
And the1 stumbling blocks along with the wicked.
I will cut off man from the face of the1 land,”
Says the Lord.
And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
1I will cut off every trace of Baal from this place,
The names of the aidolatrous priests with the pagan priests—
Those who worship and swear oaths by the Lord,
But who also swear bby Milcom;
And bhave not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him.”
bFor the day of the Lord is at hand,
For cthe Lord has prepared a sacrifice;
He has1 invited His guests.

Zephaniah 1:5
The host of heaven - Sun, moon, planets, and stars. This worship was one of the most ancient and the most common of all species of idolatry; and it had a greater semblance of reason to recommend it. See II Kings 23:6, II Kings 23:12; Jeremiah 19:13; Jeremiah 32:29.
That swear by the Lord, and that swear by Malcham - Associating the name of an idol with that of the Most High. For Malcham, see on Hosea 4:15 (note), and Amos 5:26 (note).
