Malachi 3:16
Excerpted from: How to Know We Love ChristIf we love another person, we do not need to be reminded about them, do we? We do not forget their name. We do not forget their appearance. We do not forget their character. We do not forget their opinions, or their tastes, or their occupation, because that person's name—what that person is—is at the forefront of our mind, almost all the time. What that person is comes to mind immediately. There is a reaction to what that person is. Even though that person may be distant from us—in Britain somewhere, or Germany, or Russia—regardless where they are on the Earth, our mind knows where they are and what they are.
Do you know what meditate means? It means to think—in this case, who think on His name. This scripture is definitely end time. I think there is no doubt about it. It leads right into chapter four where my Bible has the heading, "The Great Day of the Lord." We are talking about the time of the end. God is concerned about those who think about Him.
Why would He be concerned about those who think about Him? Because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks! They are going to be talking about Him!
God is shown in that verse listening to His people and what they think about Him. It is very interesting what comes out of their heart of their hearts—what they say about Him—to each other. Remember, "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks." What we think about comes out in what we talk about.
Now, so important is this to God that He has a book written about this and it is not, if you read it carefully, it is not a book of the people's names. That already exists in the Book of Life. It is a book about what His people say about Him—what their comments are.
Malachi 3:16
Excerpted from: The Fourth Commandment (Part 5)This is a complaint of the people about the difficulty of God's way. And they see things that are within the nation that are unfair. Those who are real assertive, those who are real aggressive, the people with a lot of carnal drive and energy—they are getting ahead. "What good is it to be godly?" these people are saying. And God comes back with a promise. He doesn't say that He's going to end it right there. But He does come back, in verse 16:
Is His ear on our conversations? Sure it is. Psalms 139 tells us that His Spirit goes everywhere! He's aware. He's not real judgmental, but He's aware of what's going on, and He wants to encourage us to grow. This is an encouragement to grow.
It means that they esteem or honor His name.

Excerpted from: A Place of Safety? (Part 1)Before this gets out of my mind, we saw a book mentioned in Daniel 12. The people whose names were in the book were the ones who were going to be delivered, who were going to slip away, who were going to escape. Now we find here a further detailing of the characteristics of these people; they feared the Lord, they spoke often to one another.
That word "meditate" is a little bit more closely related to our English word "esteem" or "honor." These people fear God and they honor Him, they esteem Him.
